Gadsden Elementary

St. John’s has been partnering with Gadsden Elementary for a number of years in order to support their mission to grow academically successful students.  Some of the projects we have been involved in are:

  1.  School Supply Drive – Every August church members donate school supplies to be used by the students and teachers.

  2. Adoption of a family at Christmas

  3. Weekend Backpack Program – Supplemental meals and healthy snacks are donated, bagged, and sent home with 20 students every Friday during the school year.  A big “Thank You” goes to Lisa Clarkson, Tammy Brazzell, Anne Lott, and John Davis for faithfully coordinating this ministry; making sure we have ample supplies and organizing the packing and delivery of the backpacks to Gadsden.

Here are some fun facts about Gadsden Elementary:

  • Gadsden Elementary is a small community school with approximately 150 students in

       preschool – fifth grade.

  • School  mascot – mighty blue jay

  • School colors – blue and white or khaki

  • School Motto – “Soaring to Excellence”

We are hoping to expand our Gadsden ministry, and in talks with the school administration have determined some other areas in which we might be able to offer support and assistance.   The ECW is planning on providing refreshments for the faculty and staff in appreciation of all their hard work.  We are also going to donate bicycles to be used as incentives for student growth during state-wide testing.  In an effort to get more books into the hands of the students we are going to explore the idea of setting up and maintaining a Little Lending Library at Gadsden Elementary.

How can you become involved in the Gadsden ministry?

  • Let a vestry member know that you are interested in becoming involved in or donating to this program.

  • Donate nonperishable, single serving food items with child friendly preparation to be used in the backpack program.  Items such as individual cereals, Chef Boyardee ravioli, spaghetti, and beefaroni, and Vienna sausages work well.

We appreciate your support of these valuable projects.

Let’s help the children at Gadsden Elementary “Soar To Excellence!”
