The Wardens of St. John's

Our parish by-laws determine how our two wardens ranked “senior” and “junior” are elected.  The congregation elects each to serve two-year terms in alternate years so that the wardens are not elected at the same time.

The senior warden serves as a principal liaison between the parish and the rector. In case of clerical vacancy, the senior warden “takes charge” assuming responsibility for the workings of the church.  The senior warden presides at vestry meetings and congregational meetings. In addition, the senior warden makes arrangements for Sunday services securing supply priests or lay ministers for Morning Prayer.

The junior warden is given responsibility for the upkeep of the parish buildings and grounds.  This includes maintenance of all electrical, plumbing, heating and air conditioning as well as all appliances in the church, parish house, and rectory.
