Episcopal Church Flag

Episcopal Flag_edited.jpg

The flag of the Episcopal Church was designed by William M. Baldwin and adopted by the General Convention of 1940.  There is Red Cross that is know as the cross of St. George, the patron saint of England, harking back to the beginning of the beginning of our Anglican traditions.  In the upper corner is a field of blue with nine smaller crosses forming the cross of St. Andrew, patron saint of Scotland.  The nine small crosses represent the nine dioceses that met in 1789 to start The Episcopal Church of the United States.

The alter guild recently noticed that both the church flag and the US flag needed to be replaced.  These flags had been in our sanctuary since the church was rebuilt after the December 26, 1981 fire.  The structure that we see today was consecrated Homecoming day November 1982.  That is nearly forty years of service for these flags.  May God bless these new flags to His honor and glory, now and always.  many thanks to Ms. Betty Thompson and the Altar Guild for all that they do to help make our worship services glorious and beautiful.
