Episcopal Musician's Handbook
Have you ever noticed that the hymns we sing each week seem to match the words in the readings, in the psalms, or in the sermon? How does that happen? By coincidence?

No. It is done on purpose!

The Episcopal Musician's Handbook published by the Living Church Foundation is used in choosing meaningful worship in the Anglican tradition. In this book, two facing pages are assigned to every Sunday and every major Holy Day of the year. The left-hand page contains the date, liturgical observance, customary color, and hymn listing. The right-hand page is a worksheet on which to plan service music. Hymn suggestions are matched to the theme of the gospel, lessons, psalm, collect , or season. our hymns are chosen based on those suggestions and the tunes with which we are familiar.

Next Sunday, notice how the hymns match the other words that you hear in church.
It happens on purpose!
